TAXI ADVERTISING · CITY OF LONDON

Taxi Advertising in the City of London

A weekday audience, reached on weekday terms.

The Square Mile behaves differently from the rest of London — it fills and empties on a commuter rhythm. Taxi advertising is one of the few formats that moves with it.

WHY CITY OF LONDON

Why the Square Mile rewards a moving format.

The City is the clearest example of an audience that a fixed site struggles with and a moving one does not: concentrated, professional, and almost entirely present between Monday and Friday.

01 · AUDIENCE

Business decision-makers, at work

For B2B and financial-services advertisers, the City is the densest concentration of the audience they are trying to reach anywhere in the country. A wrapped cab working Bank, Liverpool Street, Moorgate and Fenchurch Street is in front of that audience during the working day rather than hoping to catch it at home in the evening.

02 · RHYTHM

The AM peak is the point

In our sample report the City peaks in the AM peak — the only borough in the sample that does. That matters for planning: a campaign weighted toward the City is buying the morning commute, when cabs are shuttling between the termini and the office towers and the pavements are at their fullest. It is a different buy from a West End campaign that peaks in the daytime, and it should be briefed differently.

03 · ACCESS

Streets other media cannot reach

The City's medieval street pattern leaves large parts of the Square Mile with very little conventional out-of-home inventory — the narrow lanes around Leadenhall, Cornhill and Threadneedle Street simply have nowhere to put a billboard. A taxi carries the advertising into those streets as a matter of course, and the GPS trail records that it did.

If your audience is in the Square Mile between nine and six, a format that spends the working day there and reports its hours back to you is a more honest buy than one that averages a week and hopes.
